Mayor's Greeting

Village President Marcia Smith:
" As Village President, I am proud to share the features and benefits of our community. The Village Board, Chamber of Commerce and Village Planners are searching for ways to bring much needed commercial/industrial growth to Erie. As our community's future unfolds over the coming years, we will be facing a variety of new challenges. New roads, sidewalks, sewer systems and a new waste water treatment plant are among the infrastructure improvements to be made.
We have many fine churches of varied denominations, a blue ribon school system and many fine clubs and organizations. We take pride in our most important resource, our citizens. Volunteers from all walks of life strive to make Erie the best it can be. I invite you to browse our web site. If you are considering a move, whether it be your home, business or industry, please think of us.
Enjoy your cyber-visit, and then visit us FOR REAL! Welcome to the heartland of America."

Erie, is a community closely tied to agriculture, lying in the Rock River Valley in the southwest corner of Whiteside County. The principal landmark, a small, triangle-shaped park in the business district, was purchased by the village's founders for $15 in 1872. Many early settlers of Erie were natives of Erie County, N.Y., and called an oxbow lake near their new home Lake Erie. When the precinct was organized, it became known as Erie.
